Refresh Botanical Tea

50grams

Sometimes we just need a little magic in our day, and what could be more magical than a delicious hydrating tea that turns from a vibrant blue color to a rich purple with the squeeze of a wedge of lime or lemon.   Based on the stunning butterfly pea flower, this tea blend isn’t just pretty - it is a wonderful source of antioxidants which can help alleviate inflammation, boost immune function, promote eye health and prevent cancer cell growth.  It has also been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to treat anxiety, stress and as a memory booster.

This botanical tea is delicious not only as a warm brew but also as an iced tea topped with fresh mint and lime.

Ritual: Infuse 1 -2 tsp of tea in 1 cup of very hot water (not boiling) for 2-5 minutes before straining.

Enjoy mindfully.

Organic Ingredients: Butterfly Pea Flower, Lemon Myrtle, Lemongrass, Ginger.

BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER (Clitoria ternatea)

The beautiful blue butterfly pea flower has been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine to treat health issues such as indigestion, constipation, arthritis, skin diseases, liver and intestinal problems.  The rich blue color indicates a high level of antioxidants including anthocyanins, and research suggests that these flowers possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic and antidiabetic activities.  They are widely used in some cultures for hair strength and growth and to help with eye infections, as well as reduce depression and anxiety.

Add a squeeze of lime or lemon and your vivid blue tea turns a vibrant purple.

LEMON MYRTLE (Backhousia citriodora) leaves

Australian Lemon Myrtle has been used for centuries by indigenous Australians.  The leaves were chewed for hydration and a range of important vitamins & minerals as well as for their antimicrobial properties. After crushing into a paste they were used on sores and boils, and the leaves were burnt as an insect repellent.  We now know that Lemon Myrtle is the world's richest known natural source of citral (90 - 98%) which is highly antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal.   The leaves also contain lutein which is important for eye health, protecting the retina from damage by inhibiting inflammation, and other important antioxidants.  Lemon Myrtle is often used to relieve the symptoms of colds, flu, bronchitis, indigestion and other irritable GIT disorders.

LEMONGRASS (Cymbopogon citratus) aerials

Lemongrass has been traditionally used to treat heart disease and promote sleep, relieve pain, and boost immunity. We now know that it is rich in essential oils, flavonoids and phenolic compounds which contribute to its anti-amoebic, antibacterial, antidiarrheal, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.  Various other effects like antimalarial, antimutagenicity, hypoglycaemic and neuro- behaviorial have also been studied and whilst more research is needed, results are promising.

GINGER (Zingiber officinale) root

Ginger contains a natural component called Gingerol, which can help gastrointestinal motility ― the rate at which food exits the stomach and continues along the digestive process, promoting a more efficient digestion. It has traditionally been used to assist with a number of health issues including nausea, vomiting and pain. Ginger has been shown to have antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-neuroinflammation properties, and is widely used to help reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, post anaesthesia and during chemotherapy. It may also help increase blood flow and circulation,  lower blood pressure, and  stimulate digestive enzymes.

Ginger has an anti-inflammatory effect, but in high doses it may affect blood clotting, it is contraindicated for sufferers of gallstones, stomach irritation and high blood pressure.
