Seki City has been Japan’s knife-making hub for over 780 years, evolving from a revered center of swordsmithing to producing world-class knives with the same level of craftsmanship and prestige.
Founded in 1959 by Hisashi Horibe’s father, Shizu Hamono remains a family-run business in Seki. Hisashi learned the craft in his father’s factory, where he spent years refining his skills alongside master craftsmen. Now 66, he continues to work daily, meticulously straightening blades and ensuring every knife meets the highest standards of sharpness and precision.
