ELDERFLOWER (Sambuccus nigra)
Elderflowers (and elderberries) have had a long tradition of being used to treat respiratory infections, colds, flus and seasonal allergies. Being rich in many flavonoids they offer a range of health benefits including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-diabetic effects.
ROSEHIP (Rosa canina) fruit
Rosehips are the fruit of the rose, found in the centre of the flower once it has bloomed. They are a good source of phytochemicals such as vitamin C and E, phenolics, carotenoids, organic acids, and essential fatty acids, and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, anti-viral, antiseptic, antispasmodic and antibacterial benefits. Rosehips are traditionally used for the treatment of colds, flu and arthritis, and may help strengthen immunity.
CALENDULA (Calendula officinalis) flowers
The beautiful Calendula flower has traditionally been used for many purposes, including the topical treatment of ulcers, wounds, burns and rashes as it has a positive effect on the inflammatory and proliferative phases of the healing process. As a tea it has many potential health benefits with its immunostimulatory, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and is frequently used to help alleviate the symptoms of colds & flu. Studies suggest that Calendula may also have anti-anxiety, antidepression, cytotoxity and antimutagenicity effects.
NETTLE (Urtica dioica) leaves
Nettle leaf contains a significant number of biologically-active compounds including vitamin C and pro-vitamin A, and has traditionally been used to relieve the symptoms of a variety of allergies including hayfever, as well as painful muscles and joints, eczema, gout and anaemia. It has also been used for many years to support milk supply in breastfeeding mothers. Nettle has been found to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, anti-infectious, hypotensive, and anti-ulcer characteristics, as well as the ability to prevent cardiovascular disease. Nettles are useful for a variety of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and chronic myalgia and nettle tea has been shown to effectively treat gout, relieve muscle aches and minimize the symptoms of arthritis. The antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties of stinging nettle can also help in the treatment of acne and skin problems.
ROSE PETAL (Rosa centifolia) petals
The petals of the Rosa plant have been used traditionally to help alleviate stomach and digestive problems, fatigue, insomnia, menstrual symptoms as well as irritability and mood swings. More recently, research suggests that the polyphenols in rose tea can help reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cognitive diseases. Rose petals may also help relieve the symptoms of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis or physical injury, and aid digestion. Rose petals contain the vitamins E and C, which are excellent vitamins to take together to promote healthy skin.
